Beyond the Run: Every Step Towards a More Independent Future
This November, I’m running my first half marathon, 21.1 km at the Kaveri Trail Marathon, and I want my miles to count for something beyond the finish line.
I’m raising funds for WeLive Foundation, which supports young people leaving childcare institutions when they turn 18. Overnight, they’re expected to manage shelter, food, education and work, often with no family to fall back on. WeLive steps in with safe shelter, bridge programs and life-skills support, so that turning 18 doesn’t mean figuring everything out alone.
I’ve been lucky to have people to lean on through every big transition in my life, and I know not everyone does. Running my first half marathon has taught me that long distances are covered one step at a time, with people cheering you on. WeLive gives young people that same kind of support at one of the hardest steps, and after speaking with their team, I knew I wanted my first half to mean something beyond a finish time.
I’ll take the steps to the finish line. Help me make sure someone else has the support to take theirs. Whatever you can give, big or small, makes a difference.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
