WeLive’s 3 step Program to Empower CareLeavers

Our programs support a young person at every stage of their journey to adulthood.

Transition program

Transition Modules for youth in 16-18 years in childcare institutions across the country

The objective of the transition program is to equip youth in 16-18 years, who are in the institutions, with exposure visits and workshops that will give them the exposure and the knowledge to transition from institutional care to independent living.

Our Offline Transition Programs in Chennai and Bengaluru provide youth with practical life skills training, including navigating essential services like banks, post offices, and obtaining PAN and Aadhar cards. The program also offers comprehensive career guidance on private sector opportunities, government job preparation, and university visits for higher education exploration. Career counselling and financial literacy for their job readiness is also a part of this. This in person initiative gives participants hands-on experience and valuable exposure, alongside the emotional and educational support they need as they transition out of CCIs and into independent life.

Our Online Transition Programs in childcare institutions in Assam, Delhi, Kashmir, Rajasthan and more states provide youth with sessions on spoken English, career counselling, emotional wellness, financial literacy, relationship management and more. These are delivered remotely with the help of trained facilitators who engage with the youth for a whole year by interacting with them twice a week.

Residential program

For Young People Who have turned 18 years and have to leave their childcare homes.

A program focused on work readyness and emotional support towards making young people become independent.

A safe space to stay coupled with good food, a small stipend, caregivers and friends creates a vibrant community.

The  robust peer and mentor network nurtures their growth and development. Additionally the availability of mental health councilors, deaddiction support helps deal with challenges along the way.

Continuing education that is abruptly interrupted when they leave the care homes. This could be completing the 10th/ 12th standard via the open system and persuing college in college or via distance learning.

All young people work part-time or full-time. They are enrolled in programs that give them a basic training and offer job placements. Once they get a job they contribute Rs 3000 of their income to WeLive.

Crisis Support Program

Some young people cannot join a residential program, but there’s a need for a safe space for them to stay because they need the time before they are in the position to take their next steps.

Sadhbhavana centre, which is our drop in centre,  will provide the physical space for them and minimal inputs of food, water, treatment and counselling, which will given them the breathing room to build their strength before they move on. Without a safe physical space in distress times, care leavers end up being on the road or moving from one friend’s place to another. They are unable to take decisions or move forward till the issue of a place to stay gets sorted. Finding a job or another place to stay in the future also becomes possible only when they stay somewhere at the present.
