Empower orphans for sustainable livelihoods: Donate Now
Every city has hundreds of children who move to a care home/ orphanage as they have no family to support them. They have either lost their parents, they live on the street, their parents are too poor to look after them or their home is not a safe environment for them. The orphanage provides a space where they can sleep, eat, study and be safe. However, when they turn 18, they have to leave this space that they call home, as the law sees them as adults.
This is where WeLive foundation comes in. WeLive has tied up with care homes/Orphanges across India. Young people from here apply to WeLive’s transition program where they get a safe space to stay, food, mentors and counsellors and the chance to complete their education and find work to become independent.
Remember your first job that set you off on your career? You probably had finished your studies, got some advice and support from your family and friends on how to crack the interview and how to succeed at your workplace.
A lot of the young people who have had a broken education and are still finishing 10th or 12th standard find it hard to get meaningful jobs where they can grow. They are limited by their English language, self-confidence and communication skills and a lack of understanding of their skills and aptitude. This project aims to give these young people a level playing field at a job that can become a stepping stone to their brighter future.
The appeal is to contribute towards a 6-month apprenticeship program where the young people at WeLive can learn while their earn on the job.
The on-field and in- classroom mentorship ensures that they can perform well, can address fears and challenges, communicate with confidence build skills, accountability and a strong work ethic. In this period they will earn Rs 12,000- 14,000/ month which will help them survive (pay for food and transport and set aside savings for when they move out of WeLive in 6month – 1 year).
This apprenticeship will have Khushi, Madhav, Marcelina, Vishwajeet, Roshni, Seema, Prabhu and Sam who are on their journey to a successful livelihood and independence.
This program is designed to empower young people with essential skills needed to excel in diverse job roles such as fundraising, event management, sports, retail, entrepreneurship and more, enabling them to secure stable jobs and live independently.
In this program the young people at WeLive get hands-on learning experiences in field settings and event spaces to enhance their skills in communication, public engagement, data management, entrepreneurship, event management, etc.. The training focuses on
